There is Nothing Wrong with what Rev. Wright said: Many simply missed the point.
April 30th, 2008Many in the black community found nothing wrong with what Rev. Jeremiah Wright, former pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago’s south side, stated in recent appearances on television. Most blacks listened to Rev. Wright with an appetite and were fed a full-course of what they saw as the truth from where they sit. They weren’t particularly particular about what the media would paint as negative; they were merely interested in the blinders being snatched off the eyes of the world so everyone could get a glimpse at what it is like to be black in the United States.
Blacks and whites listened to the words of Rev. Wright with two separate set of ears. It is testament that many blacks and whites are different, look different, think differently, act differently, and process information differently. The greater problem is that many black and white people simply don’t understand each other. They tolerate each other, but don’t truly understand each other nor from whence each other come.
Over the next several days, Abolish Stereotypes will deconstruct what Rev. Wright talked about in his speech at the NAACP convention and to the National Press Club. It is our goal to shed some light on the pain and struggle of black folks and the fear and seemingly indifference of whites.
Our overall goal is to Build a Bridge between Cultures! Please join us and join in on the discussion.
